The ethical, Oakland, Apparel Brand
by Annmarie Bustamante
by Annmarie Bustamante
Casually Uncommon was founded by Annmarie in San Francisco's Mission district in 2013. In college, she wanted to create loud and funky garments that countered the trends of time. Annmarie also aimed to pioneer uni-size and uni-sex apparel so that her items would not only be accessible, but interchangeable for different wearers.
Nearly 10 years later, 13 collections have been showcased in 5 different countries, and 5 music videos have been produced in the US.
Casually Uncommon has graced the Grammy's Red Carpet, and we proudly continue our journey. With the partnership of designer Dalya Azulai and support from Erin Faso, and Michelle Kern, the brand continues our ethical and sustainable dreams!
We hope to boost of the lives of as many humans as possible. Whether that be helping everyone from aspiring models to experienced photographers, we will bring as many big hearted, and driven people on this journey with us as we can.
OUR IMPACT
Social: We will work to create a brand for a truly diverse audience. Expressive, authentic, conscious consumers of all shapes and sizes, all socio economic statuses, all colors and spiritualities, and all gender expressions and identities.
Economical: We continue to create jobs for marginalized communities. We are helping give artists a platform to grow and gain traction in the art mecca that is the San Francisco Bay Area. We will do everything we can to boost up the unhoused, marginally housed, struggling, and up and coming artists here in Oakland. Artists are a special species and we need to support and empower them.
Environmental: It is time for a huge shift in the Apparel Industry. Extreme mass production, fast fashion and our over- consumptive, "throw away" society has warped this industry into a heartless, hurtful and wasteful machine. We wish to model a new way to shop for clothes. All our garments will be up-cycled (repurposed from existing fabrics), all of our garments will be sweat shop free, locally made, and built to last both in their quality and their uniqueness.

About the Designers
Annmarie BustamanteOwner, Founder, Designer
Annmarie has wanted to design clothes ever since she was first faced with the hardship of being a gender-nonconforming youth with trouble finding clothes that fit her unique-ness and her small size. As a conscious designer who studied in San Francisco, and then traveled the world teaching english and making art, she aims to cultivate a brand that is inclusive, ethical, fully sourced from repurposed fabrics and sweat shop free. With her skill set of draping, alteration and appliquéing, Annmarie is very excited to see her brand grow. She is currently designing for the two time Grammy Winner, Fantastic Negrito. Activism and open mindedness are at the heart of her mission. She wants to revolutionize the apparel industry so we consume smarter, waste less and care more. |
