Arora's Fairy Godmothers

The three fairies in Disney's Sleeping Beauty
created a gown for Arora's
(the princess they raised) 16th birthday.
They had worked hard to keep their magic a secret from her
until they begin construction of a dress.
Pinning, draping and sewing the dress was a true struggle for them, so they took their wands from the safe and
created a dress the easy way.
An option I WISH I HAD in clothing construction class!
They couldn't decide on a color but finally the stubborn pink one changed the dress at the last second as Arora walked into the room.
This shows that all though they had good intentions,
not all caretakers were master seamstresses
back in the day.

Cinderella's animal companions

When Cinderella was promised she could attend the Prince's Ball
if she had something nice to wear,
she immediately started the construction of her gown.
Her evil Step Mother and Step Sisters noticed her progress and
eagerly gave her an unending amount of chores.
She worked as hard as she could, but would never have had a dress if it weren't for her little furry friends. They finished her gown with
flying trapeze artist execution.
All while singing gleefully and reminding the male mice and birds
that they should "leave the sewing to the women"
which could be construed as them knowing whats best or that sewing is a gender assigned job for women only. After all their work, the evil stepsisters rip up Cinderella's dress in a jealous rage. They won't find love until the 3rd movie so, they surely learned their
lesson of manners in time.

CHARLOTTE from
 Jungle to Jungle

Charlotte, Tim Allen's fiancee in the film, is the perfect example of a stereotypical, shallow, chic, Fashion Designer living in New York.
She is completely
focused on her image and network,
she can't handle big spiders and she would rather feed her narcissism than keep her relationship with Stock Broker, Tim's character, alive.
The couple has a documentary film maker following them around filming their every argument and embrace.
Tim finds this odd and Charlotte retorts
"Just think of them as furniture."
Tim finally leaves her when Charlotte plans their honeymoon around the Film Directors schedule rather than Tim's. Despite her vapidness I still remember her iconic line she declares,
"You see things for what they are, I see things for what they can be... and who can wear it"
as the puts her sunglasses on and walks out the door, camera crew chasing behind her.

Elle wood's from Legaly Blonde

I didn't catch this until I re-watched the film last week, but Elle was a Fashion Merchandizing major before studying law! So cool! She always dressed to the nines and in her application for Harvard included the
fact that she has designed a line of Faux Fur Panties.
Why anyone would want fuzzy underwear is beyond me,
but this convinced the Harvard acceptance staff that
she is a friend to the animal kingdom.
A great quote from the film was when she proclaims
"I once had to judge a tighty-whitie contest. I can handle anything."
Elle Woods is amazing and shows the world that
you can have a big heart  and brain
while at the same time loving all things fashion.
She showed up to a casual mixer in full playboy bunny leotard and ears,
instead of running away in shame, she walked right up to the girl who invited her (and lied about it being a costume party) and said "Oh! I like your costume too! But, when I dress up like a frigid b****, I try to look less constipated." Way to stand up for yourself Elle,
plus! who doesn't love themselves some poop insults?

Mugatu from zoolander

If you don't recognize this image, that means you've never seen the classic tale Zoolander, and if you haven't seen Zoolander
stop everything you're doing and find a way to experience that fine film!
For everyone else, here we see Mugatu,
the emotional, insane, artistic and corrupt Fashion Designer.
Mugatu threw his scalding hot latte
on his assistant and is currently screaming at him for not knowing that foam makes him feel bloated.

Picture
He is the worst of the worst,
but gets 3rd place on my list because he's quite entertaining.
Warning!
Here comes a run on sentence!
Picture
Influential designer, Karl Lagerfeld was criticized by the press who printed the headline, "Karl Lagerfeld: Slowly becoming Mugatu?"
He goes from shrieking at a model
to "loose ten pounds immediately or get out!",
to brainwashing the unsuspecting Zoolander,
to designing a fashion line inspired by
homeless people and garbage,
to trying to kill the prime minister of Malaysia because he's trying
to enforce labor laws that would stop Mugatu from using child labor
to construct his clothes. Just amazing! There can only be one Mugatu.

Anita from 101 dalmations

This still above goes to show you how classic disney animation used to dominate everyone! Look at those leaf details! Anita is a boss. She's a classically attractive English woman who
sports stunning styles effortlessly, she owns a huge dog and works as a Fashion Illustrator for the notorious Cruela Deville.
Anita met Rodger when their dogs fell in love and she tripped and flew into a pond. Once the bad guy was sorted Rodger, Anita, their baby, their dogs and their puppies lived on a giant property in a house with a dalmatian print paint job (at least in the live action version). Anyways, Anita draws this sketch below...
Picture
Cruella, looks through Anita's work and
  finds this masterpiece.
Anita explains that this was meant to be made in faux fur, as I'm sure it's illegal to kill dogs and skin them in England.
Picture
Cruella proclaims
"It must be made from fur, I LIVE for fur I WORSHIP fur! After all isn't there a woman in the d*** world who doesn't?" Anita doesn't, because she's a dog lover. What's worse is that the fur of adult dalmatians is too course so they would need to use the fresh, fine, fur of puppies. So heart breaking! Fun fact, Hugh Lorrie,  (Dr. House) played a henchman in this film and you get to hear his real accent! I don't think this could have even become an attractive finished product because you'd see where all the puppy skins were sewn together, and that would be a bit gross even for the least squeamish among us.

Edna from the Incredibles

Here's some fan art of the tiny Designer, Edna Mode.
Edna is my favorite of all the fictional, fashional, film characters we've studied today. She's a midget, she's androgynous, she's sassy, and everything she says is gold. She tells Mr. Incredible to throw out his old super hero suit.
He says "But you designed it.
" Edna sassily states
"I never look back darling is distracts from the now!"
She was a designer exclusively for super heroes, and has hated returning to the mundane world of fashion.
She despises models, explaining,
"Nothing super about them, spoiled, stupid, stick figures with poofy lips who think only about themselves!"
Picture
She has an epic, multi-million dollar mansion, an accent I can't place and a high tech studio that's simply to die for!
When she showed Mrs. Incredible the different suits she's designed for the family, Mrs. Incredible is nervous that Edna made the baby's suit both flame and bullet proof. Edna retorts,
"Daahrling, luck favors the prepared."
Edna couldn't be more right.
Picture
I know this is out of place and weird as can be,
but I couldn't help myself!
Our friends at Plyvore.com have way too much time on their hands.
I want that necklace though..

Love it!! Such a creative way to look at fashion in movies. Now I want to know how many of the wardrobe crews and on-set fashion designers influenced the creation of fashion-designing characters in the movies they worked on!
